She leads a band of followers to seek sanctuary in the Pacific Northwest. In Parable of the Talents, Lauren Olamina, the heroine of Parable of the Sower, tries to hold her low tech community together against the onslaught of violent religious right extremists armed with advanced gadgets for the physical control and torture of fellow human beings.
